Caterpillar Crushes Quarterly Sales Records with $20.5 Billion Haul
Caterpillar's second-quarter sales and revenues surpassed $20 billion for the first time in company history, reaching $20.5 billion. This marks a 24% increase from the same period last year, exceeding analysts' expectations of $19.34 billion.
The heavy equipment manufacturer attributed this growth to higher sales volume, which contributed $3.1 billion, and price realization, adding $595 million. The Construction Industries segment led the way, with a 35% increase in sales to $8.3 billion and a 57% rise in segment profit to $1.9 billion.
The Power & Energy division also experienced growth, with sales rising 17% to $8.2 billion, driven by demand for large reciprocating engines and turbines in data center applications. Resource Industries saw a 20% increase in sales.
Caterpillar's consolidated operating profit climbed 50% to $4.3 billion at a 20.9% margin, up from 17.3%. CEO Joe Creed highlighted 'strong order rates and a growing backlog' as contributing factors to the company's success. The firm deployed $1.5 billion on buybacks and $0.7 billion on dividends.
