Chapek Blames Iger for His Disney Ouster in Explosive Memoir
Former Disney CEO Bob Chapek is breaking his silence about his tumultuous time at the helm of the entertainment giant. His new memoir, Behind the Castle Walls: My Thirty Years at the Happiest Place on Earth, will be released on September 29 and sheds light on his departure in November 2022.
According to an advance copy obtained by The New York Times, Chapek places the blame for his firing squarely on his predecessor and successor, Bob Iger. He alleges that Iger worked against him after handing over the CEO position and criticized him privately to influential people in Hollywood and within Disney.
Chapek also defends the pricing strategies he introduced during his tenure, including dynamic pricing at theme parks, which led to higher prices for some services. He argues that increased prices helped manage crowds while improving guest satisfaction.
