Chapek Blasts Iger in Scathing Memoir About Disney Tenure

Disney's ousted CEO Bob Chapek has published a book about his tenure at the company, which includes scathing criticism of former CEO Bob Iger. According to the book, 'Behind the Castle Walls', Chapek claims that Iger was responsible for his own dismissal in November 2022.

Chapek writes that Iger regretted his decision to appoint Chapek as his successor and initiated a three-year campaign to push him out. He also accuses Iger of being difficult to let go, as he considered himself the 'modern reincarnation' of Walt Disney.

The book recounts several incidents where Chapek felt Iger was undermining him, including during an interview with CNBC in February 2020 after Chapek's appointment as CEO. Chapek describes Iger as looking uncomfortable and angry, while also noting that he seemed to take credit for the company's responses to controversy.

One of these controversies was Disney's response to the 'Don't Say Gay' bill in Florida, which Chapek claims was sparked by Iger's tweet expressing support for President Biden's stance on the issue. Chapek maintains that he tried to keep a low profile and avoid taking a public stance, but was eventually forced to apologize for his company's silence.

Chapek also accuses Iger of hypocrisy, as he increased prices at Disney parks despite publicly criticizing Chapek for doing the same. He claims that he became CEO because he 'kept his head down' and didn't try to promote himself, unlike some of his colleagues.
