Chevron Doubles Down on Venezuela Amid Global Crude Price Surge
Chevron is pushing deeper into Venezuela as tensions between the US and Iran keep global crude prices high. The energy major has unveiled a multibillion-dollar plan to roughly double production from its Venezuelan joint ventures, which will channel capital over the next several years.
The expansion follows updated agreements that grant Chevron improved fiscal, commercial, and legal terms alongside additional acreage in the Orinoco Belt. Company disclosures indicate the three Venezuelan joint ventures will channel the capital through the balance of the decade, with total production costs expected to remain competitive relative to global heavy crude benchmarks.
Chevron's scale and geographic diversification allow it to redirect capital toward regions offering strong near-term economics, a flexibility that has become especially relevant as Middle East tensions complicate planning for peers with more concentrated regional exposure. The company operates across upstream exploration and production, downstream refining and marketing, and a growing chemicals and midstream footprint.
