Chevron Joins SLB-TotalEnergies Digital Subsurface Collaboration
SLB has expanded its digital subsurface collaboration with TotalEnergies by adding Chevron as a second global operator. The partnership, initially established in 2024, aims to co-develop next-generation digital technologies for reservoir engineering and geoscience. Rakesh Jaggi, president of SLB’s digital business, highlighted the collaboration's goal of combining SLB’s expertise with operator knowledge to tackle complex subsurface workflows and field development decisions.
Chevron will contribute investment, intellectual property, and technical expertise to the initiative. The company brings industry-leading skills in uncertainty analysis, optimization, and field development planning, which will help shape the roadmap for scalable digital subsurface technologies. The collaboration, known as Arena, focuses on improving decision-making across reservoir engineering and geoscience workflows.
By embedding TotalEnergies and Chevron subject matter experts within SLB technology centers, the collaboration aims to shorten feedback loops between operators and product development teams. This model is designed to progress the delivery of scalable, open, and extensible digital technologies. Jitendra Kikani, Chevron vice president of Subsurface, emphasized the company’s efforts to advance digital capabilities to unlock greater value from subsurface resources.
The collaboration builds on the successful partnership between Chevron, Total, and SLB that previously delivered the industry-leading Intersect simulator. Arena represents another step forward in transforming subsurface decision-making through digital technologies and AI-enabled workflows.
