Chevron Set to Kick Off Seismic Surveys in Greek Waters by End-2026
Chevron is gearing up to start seismic surveys in Greek waters by the end of 2026. The energy giant has secured exclusive lease agreements for four deep-sea blocks south of the Peloponnese and Crete, covering a vast area of approximately 47,000 square kilometers.
The planned surveys follow the signing of these agreements in February this year, with Chevron leading a consortium in exploring the blocks. The Greek energy ministry confirmed that work will proceed according to environmental and safety requirements.
Chevron has also expanded its position further west by taking over a 70% interest from Helleniq Energy in an offshore block southwest of the Ionian Sea and becoming its operator, while Helleniq retains 30%. Greece aims to develop its role as a gateway for gas supplies into Europe, with Chevron's exploration program contributing to this goal.
The Chevron-led consortium has up to five years to identify potentially recoverable resources in the four southern blocks. Drilling is not expected before 2030-2032.
