Chevron Strikes Major Oil and Gas Discovery Offshore Angola
Chevron Corporation has made another significant oil and gas discovery at its Block 0 Pinda Reservoir offshore Angola. The company's subsidiary, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (CABGOC), drilled the 105-4X exploration well in the prolific Lower Congo Basin and encountered an oil and gas condensate column of over 600 meters. This is a major find for Chevron, which holds a 39.2% working interest in Block 0.
The discovery will be assessed for potential development as a tie-back to Chevron's existing facilities nearby, allowing for a capital-efficient path to production. According to Kevin McLachlan, Vice President of Exploration at Chevron, this discovery is another important milestone for the company's over 70-year history in Angola.
Chevron has been actively exploring Sub-Saharan Africa and has made several significant discoveries recently. In Nigeria, the company farmed into two offshore blocks last year (PPL2000 and PPL2001) and was awarded a deepwater block PPL2010 in the country's latest bid round. Chevron also secured three blocks in Guinea-Bissau, including Block 4B, which closed on August 13, 2026.
The company is committed to its exploration strategy, which focuses on high-impact, frontier exploration. Chevron is preparing a multi-well exploration program across the region, including Namibia's Nabba-1X well on PEL90 before year-end.
