Chevron's Guyana Play Takes Center Stage in Long-Term Growth Strategy
Chevron's acquisition of Hess has transformed Guyana into a key growth driver for the company, solidifying its role in long-term production strategy through the 2030s.
The acquisition, finalized in July 2025, granted Chevron a significant 30% stake in the Stabroek Block, a resource-rich area with over 11 billion barrels of oil-equivalent identified.
Production has surged since the inauguration of the Liza 1 development in 2019, and by 2026, capacity from four active projects is expected to exceed 900,000 b/d. Upcoming projects will add significant production, with Uaru and Whiptail contributing approximately 250,000 b/d each.
Chevron's growth trajectory in Guyana differs from its established shale and tight-oil expertise in the Bakken region, where it holds a robust position with 50,000 b/d of net crude oil production.
