The Chinese government has signaled it may allow some domestic companies to purchase Nvidia's high-end chip, RTX PRO 5500. According to a report by The Information on September 27, ByteDance and Alibaba were asked to report their plans to buy the chips.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has reportedly told some Chinese companies that it intends to approve the purchases. This move is seen as a potential way for these companies to avoid US export restrictions, which cover gaming products released nearly five years ago.

An Nvidia spokesperson stated that US firms continue to be restricted by 'a combination of outdated US export controls and China's own limits on US imports.'
