Chris McDonald Reveals Heartbreak Over Geena Davis' Affair with Jeff Goldblum
Christopher McDonald revealed that he was 'broken' when Geena Davis left him for Jeff Goldblum in 1985. The two had been engaged for five weeks, but Davis fell in love with her co-star on the set of the comedy film Transylvania 6-5000. McDonald admitted that he didn't blame Goldblum, saying 'she's stunningly beautiful and everything like that,' but still felt devastated.
McDonald shared that his friend Ed Begley Jr. was the one to break the news to him about the end of their engagement. At the time, McDonald was in the middle of playing Laertes in a production of Hamlet, and had planned to join Davis in Europe soon after.
The two actors did work together again five years later in the film Thelma & Louise, with McDonald playing Davis's husband. He recalled how his casting was initially met with surprise by Davis, who joked that she used to be engaged to him.
