Ciscomani Champions Bipartisan Water Bill Through House

U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ06) has secured passage of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2026 in the House, marking a significant win for Southern Arizona's water infrastructure and drought resilience.

The bill passed with an overwhelmingly bipartisan 415-9 vote, authorizing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to launch new water projects and update guidelines for existing programs. The legislation does not directly appropriate funds but makes designated projects eligible for future federal funding.

Ciscomani highlighted key provisions in the bill that will strengthen water infrastructure, particularly in rural communities. These include $23.125 million for modernizing drought-strained systems in Western Rural Water and $7 million for a new authority to replace a water conveyance system in Pima County. The bill also establishes an Office of Water Supply, Water Conservation, and Drought Resiliency within the Corps Directorate of Civil Works.

Following passage in the House, the measure now moves to the U.S. Senate for consideration. Ciscomani emphasized his commitment to securing crucial provisions that will safeguard Pinal County from devastating floods and invest in Tucson's water future.
