Cisco is undergoing a significant transformation to position itself as a leader in the AI era. The company has made several strategic moves, including three acquisitions and a workforce restructuring, to strengthen its agentic AI and security capabilities.

The first acquisition was Galileo Technologies Inc., an AI observability specialist, in April. This was followed by the purchase of Astrix Security, an identity protection startup, in May. Cisco also unveiled plans to acquire WideField Security in June to further build out its agentic AI and security capabilities.

As part of a restructuring move to shift resources towards advanced AI, security, and quantum networking technology, Cisco laid off thousands of employees in May. The company emphasized that this was a strategic decision to focus on key growth areas. In June, Cisco announced plans to lay off 471 employees in California, primarily involved in software engineering.

The launch of the Cisco 360 Partner Program in January marked another significant move by the company. This next-generation partner framework is designed for the AI era and aims to simplify business interactions between partners and customers. The program was initially met with skepticism but has since gained enthusiasm from partners eager to upskill and expand their expertise.

Cisco Cloud Control, a unified platform for agentic AI, was launched in June. This platform spans the company's networking, security, collaboration, and observability portfolios and provides cross-domain telemetry across customer environments. The company believes that this will position it as one of the top security providers of the AI era.
