Cloudflare Stock Soars on OpenAI Security Launch, Analysts See 133% Upside
Cloudflare's stock price jumped by 10% on September 9th after the company launched an OpenAI-powered vulnerability remediation service called Vulnerability Discovery and Remediation (VDR).
The VDR is part of Cloudflare Managed Defense, a suite of security services that scans customer codebases and live network traffic for exploitable weaknesses. Using OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Cyber model, the system generates a firewall rule or code patch before a human security team sees an alert.
Despite this positive news, not all insiders are celebrating. President Michelle Zatlyn sold 96,279 Class A shares between September 3rd and 8th for roughly $24 million, indicating she trimmed her holdings even before the wider market caught on.
Cloudflare's CFO Thomas Seifert told investors at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference that the security push is part of a broader architecture bet. He stated that 'the network itself seems to be designed for what is going to come and support what agentic AI workflows are looking for, super low latency, secure sandboxes to execute code and so on.'
Seifert also raised Cloudflare's long-term growth target from 40% to 50%, citing the company's 'significant momentum' toward it. The OpenAI product launch is seen as a key factor in this growth story, with analysts pricing in the reframing of Cloudflare's security business around agentic AI.
