Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Tests Deposit Return Scheme at Special Olympics GB
A Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) trial is underway at the Special Olympics Great Britain National Summer Games in Birmingham. The trial, delivered by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners and Exchange for Change, aims to make the UK's future DRS scheme more accessible.
Between August 27-30, hundreds of athletes with intellectual disabilities will interact with Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) during the games. Researchers from Exchange for Change will gather direct feedback from athletes, carers, supporters, and visitors on how clearly the machines, instructions, and DRS messaging are understood.
The trial is part of a wider partnership to make recycling easier, following previous research into reverse vending technology by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners and Exchange for Change. CCEP will fund a 20p donation to Special Olympics GB for every eligible drinks container returned through the RVMs during the Games.
