Commerce Department Announces $5,000 Dividend for Every US Adult
The Commerce Department has announced plans to pay out a $5,000 'dividend' to every American adult. According to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, this dividend will not be funded by taxpayer money.
Lutnick stated that the administration can earn the funds needed for the dividend through two revenue streams. First, wealthy foreign nationals will pay $5 million each for a 270-day U.S. visa extension under the Trump Platinum Card initiative.
The second revenue stream comes from paper profits on Intel stock acquired by the government using CHIPS Act appropriations - worth $8.9 billion. These gains are still theoretical since the shares have yet to be sold.
