Constellation Energy Stock Surges on Potential $1 Billion Google Deal
Constellation Energy Group (CEG) stock surged over 4% in overnight trading following reports that Alphabet, the parent company of Google, is nearing a multiyear nuclear power agreement with the firm. The potential deal, which could be worth $1 billion or more, has sparked investor enthusiasm about nuclear energy's role in supporting the AI industry's rising electricity needs.
The agreement, which may be announced as early as this week, has not been officially confirmed by either company. This deal would join Constellation's existing long-term contracts with major tech firms, including a 20-year power purchase agreement with Amazon for 690 MW from its Calvert Cliffs nuclear plant and a separate 20-year deal with Microsoft linked to the restart of Three Mile Island Unit 1.
CEG stock closed at $267.62 on October 5, up 3.93%, before continuing its upward trend in overnight trading. Despite the recent rally, the stock remains significantly below its 52-week high of $412.70, reflecting both its strong recovery potential and the volatility associated with nuclear energy investments.
The rapid growth of AI data centers is driving unprecedented demand for reliable electricity, placing nuclear power in the spotlight. Long-term agreements with tech giants like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft could provide Constellation with greater revenue stability and position the company as a key player in securing power for AI infrastructure.
