Apple Insiders Sell $87 Million in Shares Amid Strong Stock Performance
Apple insiders made significant stock sales in early October 2026, according to SEC filings. Former CEO Tim Cook sold 191,753 shares on October 2 at an average price of $332.96, raising $63.8 million. This was his first sale since retiring as CEO and his second in 2026.
Current CEO John Ternus also sold shares, offloading 25,412 at an average price of $332.94, which generated nearly $8.5 million. Senior Vice President Deirdre O’Brien sold 46,389 shares at $333.42, earning almost $15.5 million. In total, Apple’s top executives sold over $87 million worth of stock in a single day.
Notably, this single day of insider selling accounted for nearly 43% of the total insider sales for 2026, which stood at approximately $116 million between January 1 and September 30.
Despite the insider selling, Apple’s stock has performed well in 2026. The company’s shares rose 28.60% year-to-date, outperforming its rival Microsoft, which saw an 11.05% increase. The Nasdaq-100 index and S&P500 benchmark rose 23.29% and 13.35% respectively. Apple’s stock also gained 2.39% since John Ternus took over as CEO on September 1, 2026.
