A recent survey of over 100 experts from the SEO community has shed light on the most important Google ranking factors. The study, conducted by Cyrus Shepard and Dawn Shepard, found that content relevance, backlinks, and content quality are the top three factors that influence search engine rankings.

The survey generated a staggering 13,665 ranking-factor data points, with over 57% of respondents citing content relevance as the most important factor. Backlinks were also highly regarded, with over 54% of experts considering them crucial for good search engine optimization (SEO).

Other factors that made it into the top tier include trust/authority, behavioral click signals, and brand presence. These secondary drivers accounted for around 25-40% of the survey responses.
