Copilot Seats Set to Double in Next Year

Microsoft's artificial intelligence (AI) assistant for office work, Copilot, is gaining traction at an unprecedented rate. As of June, the company reported over 30 million paid Microsoft 365 Copilot seats, up from 20 million just three months prior.

The growth in Copilot seats accelerated significantly, with around 10 million added in the quarter that ended June 30, 2026. This is a slower pace than the previous quarter's rate of adding more than double the number of seats.

Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, announced on the July earnings call that the number of customers with over 50,000 Copilot seats increased sevenfold year-over-year.

HSBC committed to purchasing 200,000 Copilot seats. The company is also bundling Copilot into its Microsoft 365 E7 suite, a software package combining Copilot with other tools.
