Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), a Canadian pension fund manager, has acquired a significant stake in Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN). According to its most recent SEC filing, CPPIB purchased approximately 17.38 million shares of Amazon's stock during the second quarter, valuing the investment at around $4.14 billion.

This new position represents about 2.3% of CPPIB's holdings and makes Amazon its sixth-largest holding. The e-commerce giant accounts for a relatively small portion of CPPIB's portfolio, but it is an important one given Amazon's dominant market presence and growing influence in the tech industry.

Amazon has been expanding its reach into various sectors, including AI-powered logistics and renewable energy. The company recently signed an $8 billion supply agreement with Generac for backup generators, which highlights the growing demand for AWS data-center capacity.
