Cramer Sees Stanley Black & Decker Riding Home Renovation Wave
Financial news commentator Jim Cramer has identified Stanley Black & Decker (SWK) as a promising investment opportunity due to its connection to the home renovation boom. In his recent Stop Trading segment on CNBC, Cramer argued that SWK's strong quarters at Home Depot and Lowe's are indicative of a renovation cycle.
Cramer highlighted that hand tool sell-through was strong at both retailers, with single-family housing starts remaining weak but DIY buyers at Lowe's and small contractors at Home Depot continuing to drive sales for DeWalt and Black & Decker products.
The company's cleaner balance sheet, resulting from an asset sale that reduced leverage by $1.7 billion, is also a key factor in Cramer's thesis. SWK has shown 3% organic revenue growth, with power tools experiencing 8% growth, although some of this margin benefit came from IEEPA tariff refunds.
Cramer noted that the renovation trade has come back, driven by DIY buyers at Lowe's and small contractors at Home Depot, powering sales for DeWalt and Black & Decker products. He framed SWK as the 'pick-and-shovel supplier' to both big-box retailers, with hand tools being a key area of strength.
