Cuban Man Fires Back at Critic with Powerful Prison Story

A Cuban living in the United States responded to a friend's criticism on social media. The friend had called him out for forgetting his roots, saying he 'took the Coca-Cola of oblivion.' But Keiber Boloy was not having it.

Boloy shared a video on TikTok where he confronts his interlocutor directly and asks where he was when he was needed most. He reminds his friend that he spent 12 years in prison in Cuba, and at the time, his friend never brought cigarettes for his mother nor contributed 50 pesos for a package.

Boloy also talks about the daily hardships of living in the United States, where he works in construction and sends money to Cuba to support his family. He issues a direct challenge to his critic: 'If you want fifty pesos, jump into the water onto a boat and come here to work in construction so you can have a Coca-Cola too, let's see if you actually do.'

Boloy's testimony adds to an ongoing debate on TikTok that has been provoking reactions for over a year. The phrase 'It's not that they forgot, it's that life really gets tough on you' went viral in July 2025.
