Cuban Sounds Alarm on AI Funding: Anti-AI Ads Fuel Big Tech Ambitions
Billionaire investor and former Shark Tank judge Mark Cuban has raised concerns about the funding of artificial intelligence (AI) research by Big Tech companies Meta (NASDAQ: META) and Alphabet's Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL).
Cuban argues that these companies are using advertising revenue generated by content that promotes anti-AI sentiment to finance their AI buildouts. He believes this creates a self-defeating financial loop, where the more people hate AI, the more ad revenue is generated.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Cuban stated, 'I think it's going to be interesting to watch the irony of the social media algos amplifying the [anti-AI] sentiment far beyond any positive AI sentiment.'
Cuban also warned that frontier AI companies may have powerful models but lack control over the social media systems that determine what content goes viral. He noted that this could shift if AI agents eventually gain control over social media algorithms, a development that would restructure the entire dynamic.
