Culver City Protesters Demand Big Tech Sign Democracy Pledge Ahead of Elections
On a sweltering Saturday in Culver City, around 100 people gathered for a rally and march to deliver a message to major media companies. The protesters demanded that Sony Pictures Studios, Apple, Pinterest, and Amazon MGM Studios sign the 'Business for Democracy Pledge' ahead of the November elections.
The group marched to the offices of Sony Pictures Studios, past posters for the upcoming release 'The Social Reckoning', before stopping outside the historic Culver Studios, now owned by Amazon MGM. Local groups Culver City and Friends Rising and Keep Showing Up led the protests.
'Businesses and particularly large corporations like Sony, Apple, Pinterest, and Amazon have a particular role to play in defending democracy,' said Phil Ansell, leader of Culver City and Friends Rising.
