D23 Showcase Falls Flat for Some as Disney Fails to Deliver on Details
Disney's eighth D23 theme parks showcase was a spectacle unlike any other. The company moved its presentation from the Anaheim Convention Center to the Honda Center, which required a bigger production. Disney obliged by hiring Neil Patrick Harris as host, who brought in other actors to stage several skits and bits during the two-hour show.
The event included some exciting moments, such as Gloria Gaynor's performance of 'I Will Survive' to send off the broken animatronic in Expedition Everest. However, not all announcements resonated with fans. A skit featuring Glenn Close as Cruella de Vil misled some into thinking she announced a Cruella-themed ride for Walt Disney World's upcoming Villains Land.
Despite its creative approach, the show lacked practical information about future plans. Fans were left in the dark about when to visit Disney parks to see new attractions, such as the repaired Yeti or the new Coco ride at Disneyland.
