Dangote Reveals Commission Deal with Honeywell UOP for Kenya's $16 Billion Lamu Refinery
Aliko Dangote's $16 billion Lamu refinery project in Kenya has taken another step forward, with the billionaire entrepreneur revealing that Honeywell UOP will earn a commission on every barrel processed using its technology. The planned refinery is expected to have a processing capacity of 700,000 barrels per day and supply refined petroleum products to Kenya and other countries in the region.
During the groundbreaking ceremony for the project, attended by President William Ruto and other African leaders, Dangote identified Dr Rajesh Gattupalli, president of Honeywell UOP, as the executive behind the technology. The company will provide process technology, licensing, equipment, and related services to the refinery.
Honeywell UOP has a long history with Dangote's business, having previously worked together on the Dangote refinery in Lekki, Nigeria. The agreement for the Lamu project includes technologies such as RFCC, Unicracking, CCR Platforming, Penex, and Butamer.
The project has faced legal and environmental challenges, including a land dispute involving residents near the proposed site. However, Dangote said that the legal dispute would not stop the groundbreaking ceremony.
