DAX 40 Extends Rally as Global Equities Gain Ground
Frankfurt’s DAX 40 index kicked off Tuesday with a 0.6% gain, pushing above 25,400 points for a third straight session. The rally was fueled by strength in major U.S. tech stocks and a pullback in oil prices, which lifted global equity markets.
Investors are also reacting to a batch of economic data, including a steep 10.6% drop in German industrial orders for August, far worse than the expected 1% decline. Later in the day, the construction PMI report will be released, along with comments from ECB Governing Council member Olli Rehn on economic and monetary policy.
Concerns over France’s budget situation continue to weigh on sentiment, having recently driven the euro to its lowest level in 17 months. On the corporate front, Merck led the gains, surging 3.79%, followed by Qiagen NV (3.40%) and Henkel (1.67%). On the downside, Daimler Truck Holding dropped 1.07%, while Rheinmetall and Beiersdorf declined 0.53% and 0.34%, respectively.
Porsche is also in focus as the automaker holds a media day, drawing additional attention from investors.
