DepEd and Microsoft Expand Partnership to Equip Filipino Teachers with AI-Powered Tools
The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines is deepening its partnership with Microsoft to equip one million public school teachers with access to Microsoft Copilot, an AI-powered assistant. The initiative aims to personalize learning, provide more responsive support, and reduce administrative burden for educators.
The expanded partnership builds on a nationwide AI skilling program rolled out earlier this year, which trained over 175,000 participants in real-classroom scenarios to help teachers develop curriculum-aligned lesson plans and assessments. The training also helped draft communications and summarize student progress efficiently.
Sonny Angara, secretary of the department of education for the Philippines, emphasized that 'Our learners deserve an education system that is ready for the future.' He added that the partnership with Microsoft will help support learning recovery and prepare every Filipino child for an AI-driven world.
