Disney Announces New Round of Layoffs Amid Leadership Transition
Disney has announced a new round of layoffs that will impact hundreds of employees across various sectors. The tech and HR divisions are expected to be significantly affected, according to reports from Deadline.
The news comes as Disney faces a period of transformation under the leadership of CEO Josh D'Amaro, who took charge in March. The company is grappling with declining box office revenue and increased competition from streaming rivals, including AI-driven platforms.
This latest round of layoffs follows previous job cuts in April, which saw around 1,000 positions eliminated across Disney's marketing group, studio, TV divisions, ESPN, products, technology, and corporate functions. In July, the company reportedly laid off several hundred employees at Pixar, ESPN, Disney Studios, and Disney Entertainment Television.
The move to offer voluntary early retirement packages to long-time executives in August suggests that Disney is pushing for further restructuring amid its shift towards a more streamlined operation.
