Disney Brings Blockbuster Titles to Netflix in Major Licensing Deal
Disney has signed a massive licensing deal with Netflix, marking a significant shift in its streaming strategy. Under the agreement, some of Disney's popular titles will become available on the platform starting this month.
The first major move is the addition of Disney+ series 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' to Netflix. The show's first two seasons will be available for streaming on October 4, coinciding with the announcement of its third season premiere on November 20. This means that audiences can watch the previous seasons while waiting for the new episodes.
In addition to 'Percy Jackson', all five 'Ice Age' films will also arrive on Netflix on October 4, ahead of the theatrical release of 'Ice Age: Boiling Point' in February 2027. This move is seen as a promotional push for the upcoming film.
Disney is also bringing other titles to Netflix, including non-franchised Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar films like 'Soul', 'Elio', and 'Raya and the Last Dragon'. Legacy shows owned by Disney, such as 'Felicity' and 'Revenge', will also be available on the platform. Notably, all these titles will remain accessible on Disney+ and Hulu.
This deal further emphasizes Disney's focus on its company-wide streaming strategy, with most library titles prioritized for Disney+. However, select third-party licensing agreements like this one aim to grow audiences ahead of upcoming seasons and sequels.
