Disney Ditches Beloved Trash Cans for Solar-Powered Upgrades

The iconic trash cans at Disney World are getting an upgrade. The theme park is replacing its classic waste bins with solar-powered models that compact waste and hold more garbage.

The new 'smarter can' design was tested last year in some areas of the park and will roll out across Disney World in the coming months, according to a statement from Disney World obtained by The Washington Post.

Fans are upset about the change, particularly because the flat top on the old trash cans is often used as a makeshift table during park visits. One commenter on Disney's Facebook video said, 'Not flat on top, so no more eating on trash cans. Hope they install more tables especially in Epcot during festivals.'

The new solar-powered trash cans are designed to support the work of cast members and help keep the parks clean. Disney World says that the updated trash bins may become a favorite photo spot.
