Disney Earnings Soar on Streaming Boom, AI Adoption
Disney's third-quarter earnings report showcased the entertainment giant's continued dominance in the market. The company posted $25.2 billion in revenue and $2.63 billion in net income for the quarter ending June 27, with a 7% year-over-year increase in revenue.
The streaming division was a major contributor to Disney's success, with revenue from Disney+ and Hulu increasing 11% to $5.53 billion. Operating income for the streaming division more than doubled to $712 million, up from $329 million a year earlier.
Disney is also making changes to its consumer products business, shifting most of it from Disney Experiences into Disney Entertainment. This move aims to bring merchandise sales closer to the studios that create the films and series driving demand, according to CEO Josh D'Amaro.
The company is expanding its use of artificial intelligence with its proprietary J.A.R.V.I.S. platform, which has been rolled out to over 2,000 Imagineers. This platform allows them to access decades of company knowledge, test attractions digitally before construction, and improve the guest planning experience.
