Disney Faces $118 Million Patent Claim Over Disney+
InterDigital Inc., a technology and patent licensing company, is locked in a dispute with Walt Disney Co. over the alleged unlicensed use of video technology by the Disney+ streaming service.
The company claims that Disney infringed on an InterDigital patent related to high-dynamic-range (HDR) technology, which improves picture quality by displaying a wider range of brightness and color.
InterDigital is seeking $118 million from Disney, according to people familiar with the matter. The claim was filed with the Munich Regional Court earlier this month, following a court ruling in November 2025 that granted InterDigital an injunction against Disney's use of HDR technology.
The dispute has been ongoing for some time, with InterDigital obtaining injunctions against Disney in Germany and Brazil, as well as from the Unified Patent Court. Disney stopped offering Dolby Vision content to subscribers following the Munich injunction.
