Disney Kicks Off Fiscal Year 2027 Amid Low Box Office Expectations
Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS) is starting its fiscal year 2027 this week, but investors won't see quarterly results until November. The company's eighth cruise ship has already made headlines with high demand and sold-out voyages, but next week will bring more news as the Disney Believe sets sail in late 2027.
Disney will unveil distinctive features of its ninth cruise ship, Disney Believe, on October 7. This live event will be held aboard the Disney Wish, the fifth ship in Disney's growing fleet, and will stream across various Disney media outlets. With a fan base that has grown rapidly since entering the cruise business, this segment is one of Disney's fastest-growing ventures.
This month also brings some smaller theatrical releases, but expectations are low for 'Whalefall', set to hit theaters in two weeks on October 16. The movie will be released by Disney's 20th Century Studios and will not be shown exclusively on IMAX (NYSE: IMAX) screens. While the slow start may suggest a weaker quarter for Disney's films, next month will bring more prominent releases, including 'Hexed' as an original animated film and Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday.
