Disney Rejects Pitch for Visceral Rocketeer Sequel

The Rocketeer, a beloved comic book character from the early 90s, has been absent from the big screen for over three decades. The 1991 film adaptation delivered a fun mix of pulp adventure and superhero action but struggled at the box office.

Mattson Tomlin, writer of The Batman, revealed that he and filmmaker J.D. Dillard pitched a sequel to Disney. Unfortunately, the studio passed on the idea.

'100 harrowing minutes that would have really leaned into how viscerally insane it is to strap yourself to a rocket and save the world from fascists' Tomlin described his vision for the project, which would have unfolded in real-time and focused on the physical reality of flying with a rocket pack.

Tomlin expressed disappointment that Disney wasn't interested in bringing The Rocketeer back in this exciting and inventive way. The original movie's unique visual style and old-school adventure spirit still stand out today.
