Disney Retitles The Simpsons Movie Sequel 'The New Simpsons Movie'

The Simpsons Movie sequel has been making waves at this year's D23 Expo. Disney is promoting The New Simpsons Movie, as it's officially retitled from its original title, The Simpsons Movie 2. The yellow family will be making their presence known in Anaheim, California, ahead of the film's release on September 3, 2027.

The movie was first announced last September, with a tagline that hinted at Homer's return for more - 'Homer's coming back for seconds.' Although Disney released an updated logo for The Simpsons Movie 2 last year, it's now clear that the sequel will have a new title and logo. The new logo is reminiscent of the original, but with a slight twist.

The Simpsons' first movie was released in July 2007 under 20th Century Fox, before Disney acquired the studio and the franchise in 2019. With this acquisition comes possibilities for crossovers with other Disney-owned properties like Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. However, it's unclear what direction the sequel will take.

According to showrunner Matt Selman, The Simpsons will 'never' have a true finale, instead ending on a regular episode. This raises questions about the purpose of The New Simpsons Movie, which could be a vehicle for wrapping up storylines or introducing new ones.
