Disney Reveals Two New Restaurants for Monstropolis in 2027
Disney has announced plans to open two new restaurants in Monstropolis at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios by 2027. The first, Harryhausen's, is a table-service restaurant inspired by the Monsters, Inc. universe and will feature an animatronic sushi chef with eight tentacles actively preparing food in the dining room. This animatronic is a significant engineering feat, designed to look like it's performing real work from every angle and running continuously.
The second restaurant, Archie's Scare Pig Pizza, is a quick-service spot themed after Monsters University. Named after Archie the Scare Pig, this casual eatery is designed to feel like a pizza joint where monster college kids would hang out after class.
Disney's culinary team faced the challenge of creating food that looks monstrous but tastes good enough for children. They developed the concept of "grossly fun" food, taking familiar dishes and adding unexpected twists that fit the theme. For example, Harryhausen's will serve ramen with eyeball-shaped fishcake garnishes and green eggs, ensuring the base dish is authentic while the decorations add a monstrous flair.
The restaurants are still in the conceptual phase, with menus subject to change. However, the animatronic chef and the overall theming are locked in. Disney has also hinted at a new drink called Blort, a purple frozen beverage topped with Scream Apple Foam, though this idea is still being explored.
