Disney Sabotage: Chapek Blames Iger for Ouster
Former Disney CEO Bob Chapek has released a memoir in which he accuses his predecessor and successor, Robert Iger, of sabotaging his tenure as CEO. According to Chapek's book, 'Behind the Castle Walls: My Thirty Years at the Happiest Place on Earth', Iger quietly undermined him with Hollywood players and Disney insiders after stepping down in 2020.
Chapek claims that Iger anticipated COVID-19's impact and timed his exit accordingly, a claim that Disney has previously denied. Chapek also argues that he did 'nothing' to warrant his sudden dismissal in 2022, saying that Iger played an 'intentional and preconceived role'. He adds that it 'pisses me off' that he didn't get to finish what he started.
Chapek faced criticism for raising prices at Disney theme parks and Disney+, as well as his response to Florida's 'Don't Say Gay' bill. However, in the book, he defends these decisions as smart business moves, framing himself as a misunderstood 'disrupter' from blue-collar Indiana.
