Disney Shakes Up Streaming Leadership Amid Focus on Scaling Disney+
Disney has reshuffled its direct-to-consumer leadership team amid growing focus on scaling Disney+. Adam Smith, co-president of direct-to-consumer since March, will take over as chairman of direct-to-consumer for Disney Entertainment.
Smith's expanded role includes overseeing Disney+ and Hulu across product, engineering, advertising technology, programming strategy, viewer experience, partnerships, and data & analytics. He previously served as chief product and technology officer for Disney Entertainment and ESPN since 2024.
Joe Earley, who worked alongside Smith as co-president of direct-to-consumer, is shifting to the newly created role of president of Disney Entertainment Television franchise and content strategy. In this position, Earley will lead the strategic development of Disney's television franchises, maximizing their value and creating new opportunities for audience engagement.
The changes come at a time when Disney is focused on making Disney+ a main focal point for the company. Disney president and chief creative officer Dana Walden announced the news, praising Smith's exceptional job in building a world-class team and enhancing the Disney+ user experience globally.
