Disney World Celebrates 55 Years of Magic, Eyes Biggest Expansion Ever
Walt Disney World celebrated its 55th anniversary on October 1st by reflecting on its past and looking forward to its biggest expansion yet. The resort, which opened in 1971 with one theme park and two hotels, has grown significantly over the years and now boasts four theme parks, dozens of hotels, and more.
The company's leadership took to social media to share their thoughts on the milestone, thanking Cast Members and guests for making Walt Disney World a special place. Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro shared archival photos from opening day in 1971, while Parks Chair Thomas Mazloum expressed his gratitude to every current and former Cast Member and Imagineer who has helped bring Walt's dream to life.
Walt Disney World President Joe Schott also shared his thoughts on the occasion, reflecting on how much the resort has grown over the years. He discussed the impact of Walt Disney World on people's lives and thanked guests for making it a part of their families' experiences.
