Disney World Celebrates Milestone Birthday Amidst New Attractions and Haunt Events

The Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is celebrating two birthdays this week - its own 55th birthday and that of its EPCOT park, which debuted on October 1, 1982.

Despite being a major milestone for the resort, the anniversary is relatively low-key as Disney focuses on building new attractions for its 60th anniversary in 2031. Two new rides themed to Pixar's Cars are currently under construction at the Magic Kingdom and will replace the old Rivers of America attractions.

Other parks within the resort, such as Disney's Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, also have new projects underway, including a Monsters, Inc.-themed area called Welcome to Monstropolis and an Indiana Jones-themed ride called the Myth of the Jade Serpent.
