Disney World Railroad Closes for Month-Long Refurbishment

The Walt Disney World Railroad is closing temporarily for a month-long refurbishment at Magic Kingdom. The attraction will shut down on September 28 and remain closed until October 29, with a planned reopening on October 30.

This isn't the first extended absence of the railroad, which has been in operation since the park's opening in 1971. It previously closed for over four years from December 2018 to December 2022 while construction took place on TRON Lightcycle / Run in Tomorrowland.

Although Disney has described the current closure as a routine refurbishment, the exact nature of the work is unclear. The railroad's route and operation have been modified since July 2025 due to ongoing construction associated with Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land. The trains currently operate on a shuttle basis between Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasyland station in Storybook Circus.

For guests visiting Magic Kingdom during the closure, walking will be the primary option for traveling between areas of the park. This may be particularly inconvenient for families with small children or visitors who rely on the railroad as a slower-paced alternative to walking.
