Disney World Rides Take on a Spooky New Life During Halloween Season
Disney World's Halloween celebrations bring out the spooky in some of its classic rides. While certain attractions are great year-round, five Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios experiences become especially eerie or fun under the season's darker atmosphere.
The Haunted Mansion is a standout for its permanent Halloween feel. Its 999 happy haunts wait inside every day of the year, but October makes the experience even more immersive. Visitors can walk through Liberty Square after dark to set the mood before entering the queue, which includes the stretching room and Madame Leota's iconic scene.
Pirates of the Caribbean becomes surprisingly eerie when riding it late at night in October. The attraction starts with a dark cave filled with skeletons and shadowy scenes, setting the tone for its playful pirate invasion. Another Magic Kingdom classic, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, delivers a creepy experience without needing seasonal decorations.
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party adds special touches to Space Mountain and Mad Tea Party during select nights in August and October. Space Mountain receives a darker treatment that makes its drops feel less predictable, while Mad Tea Party gets a colorful party presentation that contrasts with the other rides on this list.
These five rides just hit differently when Disney World settles into Halloween mode, thanks to their unique seasonal experiences or atmospheric settings.
