Disney Worldbuilders Unveils the Magic Behind Its Theme Parks

A new documentary series, Disney Worldbuilders, is set to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at how Disney theme parks come to life. The feature-length documentary will premiere on August 20th on Disney+, and attendees of the D23 fan event on August 16th will get to see it first.

The documentary features conversations with Bob Iger, James Cameron, Jon Favreau, Kevin Feige, Jennifer Lee, Pete Docter, Dave Filoni, Jared Bush, and Josh D'Amaro as they discuss their creative processes. The series reveals how stories like Avatar, Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pixar, and Frozen come to life at Disney's theme parks.

Academy Award- and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Leslie Iwerks directed the documentary, which explores the creative tradition that continues to shape every new story Disney tells. According to Iwerks, the storytellers behind these beloved stories often trace their creative journeys back to a single childhood moment - walking through the gates of Disneyland and realizing that impossible dreams could become real.
