Disney World's 55th Anniversary Celebrated with Rapid Progress on Major Projects
Walt Disney World is marking its 55th anniversary with two major projects nearing completion. The Monstropolis expansion at Hollywood Studios, a collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios, will feature themed walkways, restaurants, retail shops, and a show.
The area is set to open next year, while the highly anticipated Doors Coaster, located at the back of the area, is scheduled to debut in 2028. Drew Smith, known as 'Drew the Disney Dude,' said that seeing themed walkways take shape is a good sign, indicating that the project phase is complete.
Alicia Stella of Orlando ParkStop noted that it's impressive for Disney to quickly remove and replace areas to add monstrous details such as little horns, teeth, and eyes. The Tropical Americas expansion at Animal Kingdom is also progressing rapidly, with construction on the Casita building in front of the ride building for Encanto and a carousel coming together.
Tropical Americas is slated to open in 2027 and will include Pueblo Esperanza, housing three attractions: a carousel, a family-friendly dark ride based on Encanto, and a major new Indiana Jones adventure. Drew Smith expressed surprise at how fast the temple is taking shape, with all major structures forming.
