US Stocks Close Higher Led by Tech Gains
US stocks closed higher on Friday, led by gains in consumer goods and technology sectors. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.49%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.74% and the NASDAQ Composite advanced 1.19%. Cisco Systems Inc led the pack with a 3.56% increase to $112.20, followed by Caterpillar Inc at 2.31% to $845.42 and Unitedhealth Group up 1.83% to $371.87.
The top performers on the S&P 500 included Teradyne Inc, which jumped 7.98% to $448.95, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co rising 7.36% to an all-time high of $69.33 and ON Semiconductor Corporation gaining 6.01% to close at $84.89.
However, some stocks fell sharply, with Nike Inc plummeting 3.64% to a five-year low of $33.87, International Business Machines declining 1.32% and Amgen Inc down 1.06%. Meanwhile, the US Dollar Index Futures dropped 0.05% to 101.67.
