Disney's 45-Year-Old PeopleMover Subway Celebrates Anniversary at Houston Airport
A 45-year-old Disney-built transportation system at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston has been celebrating its anniversary. The PeopleMover subway, certified for urban transit use in 1976, was designed by Walt Disney's theme park design firm, WED Enterprises.
According to airport officials, the PeopleMover system was built with the same lightweight vehicles and linear induction motors as the WEDway PeopleMover at Walt Disney World. This made it the only airport in the world to install a Disney-designed PeopleMover outside of Disney property.
The Subway has continued to be a reliable transportation system between IAH's multiple terminals, with a reported 99.76% reliability rate in 2025.
