Disney's Global Streaming Ambitions Gain Momentum with Local Content Push
The Walt Disney Company is strengthening its international streaming business to challenge Netflix and Amazon.
Disney's early results are encouraging, with its original series 'Rivals Season 2' becoming the biggest EMEA premiere in the U.K. and Ireland, while 'The Perfect Crown' became the most-watched Korean premiere on Disney+ globally.
The company plans to roughly triple its local original series over the next three years to drive new international users and reduce churn.
Disney's expanding local-content slate, improving churn and stronger SVOD profitability provide a meaningful foundation to challenge Netflix and Amazon in international streaming.
