Disney's Trash Can Overhaul Sparks Guest Frustration

Walt Disney World Resort has been rolling out modernized trash cans across its theme parks and properties, but some of the replacements have raised eyebrows. The new designs feature hygienic foot pedals and interior trash compactors, reducing the need for cast members to change bags.

The updates have not been without controversy. At EPCOT, guests used to place objects on top of flat-top trash cans during busy festival seasons, but the solar-powered versions now installed are rounded and do not allow this practice.

The resort has released a how-to video instructing visitors and cast members on proper waste disposal and recycling. Despite the complications, Disney continues to install these modernized designs across its properties, including at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The latest installations are generic silver versions of the trash cans, which can be found outside popular attractions.
