Disney's Zootopia 3 Takes Flight with Arrival of Birds

Walt Disney Animation Studios has officially placed Zootopia 3 into early development. The next installment of the franchise will introduce birds to the animal metropolis, expanding its world and possibilities.

Jared Bush, chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, made the announcement during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in August. He was joined by Ginnifer Goodwin, who voices Judy Hopps, and Ke Huy Quan, who voices Gary De'Snake.

Goodwin expressed her excitement about continuing to tell the story of Zootopia, citing her own enthusiasm for exploring the potential introduction of birds in the franchise. She even shared some ideas she had been texting to the creative team about her relationship with birds that could find their way into the movie.

The introduction of birds was hinted at in the credits of Zootopia 2, where a feather floated onto Judy's windowsill, providing a clue for what was to come. Bush showed attendees an exclusive extended sequence confirming that birds will play a major part in Zootopia 3, which he described as 'something we've been excited about for years'. He emphasized the filmmakers' desire to explore the consequences of birds arriving in the city and how they'll interact with Nick, Judy, and other characters.

Clark Spencer, president of Walt Disney Animation Studios, believes that introducing new animal populations will allow the franchise to expand its storylines even further. He reassured fans that Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde will remain at the center of the series, while also promising to explore additional districts and bring in more characters.
